The students explored fractions this week during various exploration centers. They practiced making equal parts to different fractions of a circle, used pattern blocks to make shapes with the same area and different perimeters, and calculated what fraction of a circle was covered by the pieces shown.
Our leadership team, Thea and Elliott, presented a lesson on Empowerment this week. They led a discussion about what empowerment is and is not, how people misuse power, and how students can empower themselves. They also paired the class off and asked them to write something they know their partner excels at and could teach them. The students not only gave great compliments to their peers, boosting their confidence, but also were good sports, teaching one another their skills. Some of the skills were: football, hockey, baseball, cheerleading, singing, drawing, inventing, and gymnastics.
On Friday Max (and his big brother Justin) were Mystery Readers for the Pre-K students. We took a mini class field trip to support Max and listen to his wonderful reading skills and beautiful story selection =)
