This week in math we have delved deep into the world of fractions, learning about Equivalent Fractions and Improper Fractions.
We also explored the Order of Operations aka Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction).
The students did a fantastic job with these very difficult topics and I could not be more proud of them and their efforts to persevere through these challenging tasks.
We played several new games including "Fraction Memory", "Fraction Top-It", and "Salute!" (which is like headbands for 3 people with multiplication facts, a GREAT game to play at home for fun math fact practice!).
Several students tried their hands at teaching the class this week and I think they got a taste of what life is like from the teacher's side. I appreciated their efforts and was entertained by their feedback about teaching.

Students have been hard at work on their State projects. They are being creative and resourceful and learning a lot through the process of making a project with very little help and much guidance.
Morning meeting this week had us all tied up! We did the spider web greeting and enjoyed our "Max fly" caught in the web!
Mr. Jack was kind enough to share his lightsabers with 3B the last 2 classes. He has been teaching them "lightsaber (stage) combat" moves and the kids have LOVED every minute of it!
He will be teaching a whole class with lightsaber combat this summer at Ruth Eckerd Hall if you are interested please check the website:

Also, Mr. Jack and Mr. Koski (the Middle School drama instructor) are currently part of "The Laughing Stock" play at Ruth Eckerd Hall as Director and Actor. The play is rated PG but would be a fantastic opportunity for a night out at the theater to support some AMAZING teachers that we are very fortunate to have.
