Thanks to Elliott for "saving me" this week as a giant katydid landed on me at recess and he helped rescue it =)
Students this week shared some wonderful moments during morning meeting. They are learning to celebrate one another and take turns during discussions. They are learning to be courteous and realize that when two people start talking at the same time, they can be kind and decide to wait and let their friend take a turn first. I'm extremely proud of their efforts.
The last few biography presentations happened today. I am grateful for their patience. We have had trouble finding time where both classes can get together with everyone present, so they presented only to our class today and they did a wonderful job! The student responses (compliments, questions and suggestions) were wonderful. They are doing a great job recognizing the positive elements of one another's stories and giving constructive feedback.
As they move forward with their fiction story writing, I hope that they will continue to use the strategies they have learned for writing to give suggestions to one another to improve their writing.
Their stories are coming along nicely. I continue to encourage them to use as much time as possible to make their stories the best they can be. They are hard at work drafting, editing, revising, and sketching illustrations for their stories. We will continue to work on the stories until the end of April. They are going to get some wonderful tips on illustrating from Mrs. Berthold in Art Class over the next few weeks, and I know their books will be true works of art when they are finished.

This week students had time to read some wonderful stories in their Literature Anthology for inspiration. They've enjoyed reading picture books and it reminds me that no matter how old we get, it's always nice to read a classic story with people we care about. I've encouraged them to read with family members at home as well. As I was recently told, "3rd graders work hard and they are exhausted!" so it's always nice to sit back and hear a good story =)
